HOLLOW ANGLING SOCIETY
FISHERIES
Paradise Lake Turnford Complex
LEA RELIEF CHANNEL
We have a limited number of permits available to members for around a mile of
this river at Waltham Cross.
With solid flat gravel banks
leading from the car park along the whole of the bank this fishery is much different to our other
fisheries and is accessible by members of all mobilities.
Slow flowing for most of the time the level is controlled by two weirs (sluices)
and several run off side streams. Several streams flow in at various points
enhancing the fish holding areas of the river.
This stretch consists of part of the old river path cut and straightened out,
the banks have settled down and other than being straight now look quite natural
with overhanging trees and bushes. The water depths vary from nine foot to a few
inches giving all the species the type of water that suits them. Weed growths
vary throughout the stretch with both lilies and under water streamer weed being
most common.
There are Carp to well over 30lbs, large Tench to 8lb plus, Chub over 6lbs and
monster Bream in vast shoals often seen when the sun shines on the water. Roach,
Dace, Perch and good Pike also inhabit this stretch. Many parts of the Lea are
famous for Barbel, the record for this section stands at 12lbs.
A car park and subsidised bar is situated on the bank and the water is reached
through locked gates at one end of the car park.
This fishery is strictly permit holding members only, contact the society secretary for a venue permit before visiting fishery.
This
fishery is currently open 16th June to the 14th March
inclusive
